Is Cal/d free?
The app is free, and the whole model works without paying: your daily average, the accruing budget, the countdown, stats, history, skipping days, the Home Screen widget and the tracker shortcut.
Cal/d Plus is a one-time $9.99 unlock that lifts the limits on the planning features and keeps the countdown running outside the app. There is no subscription and nothing expires.
What does Plus actually unlock?
- What-if scenarios — free plans up to 150 kcal; Plus models any amount.
- Surplus goals — free goes up to 5 days; Plus saves toward any goal length.
- Countdown milestones — free shows the next 5; Plus shows all 20.
- Stats range — free uses the presets; Plus charts any start and end date.
- Pace after exercise — Plus compares your pace before and after exercise is credited back.
- Live Activity — Plus keeps the countdown on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island.
- Checkpoint notifications — Plus notifies you at every 250 kcal as your budget rebuilds.
You buy it in the app, under Settings.
Will the free features start costing money?
No. What is free today stays free. Plus exists so that continuing to build the app can pay for some of the time it takes, and it is priced once rather than monthly for the same reason.
Android version? Mac?
Not in the cards, unfortunately. Same for any non-Apple platform.
On a Mac with Apple Silicon you can run the iPhone app directly. Data syncs from your iPhone, so if the Mac is showing something out of date, open the app on your phone to re-sync it.
Do I have to stop using my current calorie tracker?
No — that is rather the point. Cal/d reads whatever already writes dietary energy to Apple Health, so you can keep logging in Lose It or MyFitnessPal and use Cal/d for the countdown and the stats. Set your preferred tracker in Settings and it is one tap away from the toolbar.
How are the stats calculated?
Every number comes from four values and a little arithmetic — no hidden model, no machine learning.
